Overview

Robert Van Westen’s family has been farming the Naramata Bench for over 50 years. His brother and father are also grape growers and fruit farmers. Robert’s grapes are grown exclusively in his three vineyards, all within close proximity to one another, high up on the Naramata Bench. The Homelot Vineyard on Naramata Road provides Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc. Further up the Naramata Bench, just below Robert’s home is the Boothe Road Vineyard, which is in a perfect south-southwest facing natural amphitheatre which is sheltered from the wind and very warm. There he grows Merlot and Cabernet Franc primarily, with some young-vine plots of Malbec and Petite Verdot that will be added to future vintages of his red wine. He also farms a very small, warm site further up Naramata road from his home vineyard which is planted exclusively to Viognier, called Orlando. The Orlando Vineyard is situated up against a steep rock face which reflects heat onto the vines at night. The vineyard is sheltered by a series of cedar trees, forming a “clos”-like barrier from wind.
