Overview

The earliest document of the sale of Chianti in the Fattoria dei Barbi archives is dated 1817. Montalcino is part of the territory where Chianti can be produced. Here and in vineyards rented in other areas of Chianti Senese, Fattoria dei Barbi grows the grapes for this wine in order to keep alive a centuries-old tradition. The blend is no longer the classic Chianti mixture, which calls for the use of white grapes, but is what could be called “modern classic,” 90% Sangiovese and the rest other red Tuscan grapes, above all Canaiolo, Colorino, and Ciliegiolo. It is a pleasant wine that goes down easily, meant to be drunk young
