Overview

The 2006 vintage is the best in Verona since Alpha Zeta started n 1999. July and August were wet and cool so the ripening was behind schedule. Fortunately, the rain had fallen too early to do any damage to the grapes as the skins were thick and the acid still high. An improvement in the weather at the beginning of September was welcomed by the vines as it brought warm, dry days and cool nights. The weather continued throughout September, and the grapes were looking superb. The Veneto winter was characterised by cold, wet weather which gave way to a cool, rainy spring. Conditions improved in late May with a hot, dry June with good diurnal temperature differences. Harvest was approximately a week later than 2009 and the grapes were picked in good condition with good acidity levels, better pH than 2009 and lovely aromatic qualities.
